I have to admit, I wasn’t ready for the overwhelming success that this blog would have. I really wasn’t ready for the 200+ likes that this group has received on Facebook. A few years ago when I started this book club it was just a few people getting together every month to discuss the works of HPL. I didn’t really have any plans beyond that and wasn’t at all thinking about putting any of this out on social media.
Fast forward a few years and here we are on Facebook with over 200 followers and our new meeting place at the Massillon Library. Honestly I feel like I have dropped the ball in regards to the online community who has shown interest in the group. Obviously I’m only one person and like everyone things come up in our day to day lives that distract us or demand our attention. I’ve been slacking off with my responsibilities to this group (both online and in real life). Work has been crazy and being a father has it’s own demands as well so it’s not just out of laziness I assure you. But all excuses aside I am really REALLY impressed with the amount of feedback I have received for the group and the interest that has been shown, both online and in the real world. So in the next few weeks/months I’m going to make it my mission to be more active with the group.
One of the first things I would like to do is get more active with the Facebook group. I would love to see discussions about the stories we are reading and hear what everyone thinks of them. Good or bad I think it would be interesting to hear what everyone has to say about the works of HPL.
I‘m also going to attempt to post more interesting news and information about Lovecraft and Lovecraft related subjects. Again I’m only one guy so all of you are invited to send news and articles my way or share them with everyone on the Facebook site.
In the meanwhile, the next story we will be reading is The White Ship. We will be meeting to discuss this story on May 6th at the Massillon Public Library but feel free to discuss on the Facebook page at any time.
